a candy colored rainbow

26.5.12

hello darlings, i hope that you are all having a wonderful start to your Saturday.  i am just taking care of some work - editing work from some students from norway who are learning English. i have aspirations of cleaning my flat as well as gathering up clothes of mien i would like to sell or give away. this evening i am attending my friend melissa's shop opening. i suggest if you are living in berlin and have some time that you stop by. there will be free food and lovely designs to look at. yesterday i finally utilized the private garden behind my building which is open to the residents of my apartment building and the neighboring apartment building. it's a nice spot of green to have, and literally at my backdoor as well. i invited allie and maja over and we just hung out back there for a while. i love going to public parks as well, but sometimes it is nice to opt for a quieter private alternative. anyway, i wanted to share with you some photos from last monday (the 14th)! maja and i grabbed lunch at a veggie bistro and then visited this swedish candy store so that maja could get her candy fix. we then ended the day at goodies.

hello dolls! i hope everything is going well with everyone! i am just enjoying a lazy morning before i have to face the day and take care of a lot of stuff. i am currently chatting with my dear friend claudia who lives in japan. we often talk around this time since it seems to work the best for the both of us. anyway, i just wanted to post some pictures from a few fridays ago, when i met up with maja for lunch and conversation. i grabbed a bite to eat at yamyam, and then we headed over to sankt oberholz for some summer drinks and to chat a bit. oh, and how do you like my recently purchased ring above? pretty bad ass right?

oh, i also got stopped a few weeks ago by the street diary. they are a street fashion blog from berlin, and the people behind the blog are also super lovely, so i would suggest you stop by and visit their page if you have a moment. most of the street fashion photos are taken around mitte from what i can tell. it will give you all some insight into how people are currently dressing in berlin in that part of the city. unfortunately the photograph of myself is possibly one of the worst photos i have taken, but i am still flattered that they stopped me. of course in a moment of vain panic, i asked the opinions of a few friends, to which i was relieved to hear that it is a bad photo and doesn't really look much like me. although we all have good photo days and bad ones, right? silly thing, but we are all allowed to have our moments of vanity and insecurity once in a blue moon, right? haha.

well that is all for now, darlings!

film recommendations 002 - Bill Cunningham New York

17.5.12

"the point is that fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. i don't think you could do away with it. it would be like doing away with civilization."

today is Männertag in Germany, so everyone has off. however, since at the moment i have a break between my studies, everyday is already a holiday to me, meaning my sleeping schedule is very off and i am never quite sure if it the weekend or weekday. but it has given me a lot of free time to work on projects and things i love and spend time with friends and go out. last saturday (the 12) anna and i hung out with a few of her friends at this club/bar in xberg called farbfernseher. if you are ever in berlin, i suggest checking it out. it's quite small, and very packed, but that adds to the atmosphere in my opinion. i had a great time meeting some new people and having some great conversations.

anyway, i just wanted to share with you all the trailer to "Bill Cunningham New York," a documentary about New York Times photographer, Bill Cunningham. A synopsis from the website itself:
The “Bill” in question is 80+ New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. For decades, this Schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist has been obsessively and inventively chronicling fashion trends and high society charity soirées for the Times Style section in his columns “On the Street” and “Evening Hours.” Documenting uptown fixtures (Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Brooke Astor, David Rockefeller—who all appear in the film out of their love for Bill), downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham’s enormous body of work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place and individual flair. In turn, Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny and often poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming grace.
i recently downloaded the documentary from iTunes during my debacle with my cast, but have yet to watch it, but thought i would let you all know about it anyway, because i have full confidence that it will be a worthwhile watch and probably explains fashion in a more eloquent and meaningful way than i myself could.

hello lovelies, i hope you all had a great start to the week yesterday! the weather was at least a bit sunny yesterday, so maja and i took advantage of good weather and visited a swedish candy store right here in fhain after grabbing some veggie burgers around the corner. today, is sadly overcast and wednesday and thursday is calling for rain, so i thought i would share some photos from a satuday a few weeks ago (28 April 2012) when the weather was hot and sunny. anna met maja, allie, and i for lunch at intimes in fhain. afterwards, maja, allie, and i headed to Volkspark Friedrichshain to enjoy the warm weather.

i hope you all enjoyed the photos. today i might head over to the store to check out some new cameras. i have been thinking about investing in a new camera for the better half of a year, because i would really like to have better video filming capabilities. other than that, i think i might work on some music, take care of errands, and watch a film with allie. have a great tuesday, everyone!

hello lovelies, just a quick entry. i went to the doctor's today and found out that everything with my foot is fine. i have to wear a bandage around it for a while, and i should try to give it a bit of a break, but overall, everything is fine! i am so happy with the good news and very thankful to my good friend norman for coming with me and keeping me company. of course i was so silly this morning in a rush to get out of the house and so concentrated on moving about on crutches i forgot my other shoe, so i still had to use the crutches to get me home, but i could not be more excited today. anyway here is a photo from me today, while i was out with azura. the knee socks and backpack make this outfit a bit of a "catholic-schoolgirl-meets-fhain, berlin" feel. you will also notice i am wearing flat shoes. i will have to be doing that for a few weeks now. so no heels for me for a while :( i also talked to some really nice guys at goodies (the cafe) today. one runs a really interesting blog, called http://coffeediary.it/ . basically, you can upload any of your photos of coffees and they will be uploaded to the website. it is a great source of community :) the other guy has a website as well called http://makersand.co/ full of a lot of interesting technological endeavors. i suggest you check them both out if you have a moment!

p.s. this photo was taken with instagram, so go ahead and find me there and add me if you like! @raeatloveforschoolgirl
