last photos from cali

i am currently at work taking a slight break in order to bring you a proper update. so here they are - the last set of photos from my trip to cali a few months ago! looking at these photos makes me long for california sun, but i should be back in LA in just a little over a month, if i play my cards right. READ: if i somehow manage to successfully juggle this blog, my internship, my PR job, and finishing 2 papers online. please world, cross your fingers for me. things have been insanely busy and stressful as of late, which is why i haven't really found the time to update properly or had the motivation to bring my camera around. i am hoping this will change soon, but school has to unfortunately take priority at the moment. after all, what are we without our masters degrees? now, we all know that self worth is not dependent on a degree, but getting hired and becoming a full-fledged member of the working society does. but who am i kidding with this degree? i am never going to be the cubicle type. instead, i have lots of ideas brewing in my head for entrepreneurial ventures which i may or may not pursue. well at least my diploma will look nice hanging on my wall.in any case, these pictures are from the Zoo in san diego (not usually a fan of zoos but the san diego zoo is also a wildlife sanctuary), lunch near by, and the boats in the harbor near our hotel in coranado. until next time...

usedom 2013

guess what? at the moment, i am currently sitting at my desk looking out of the window because the sun is shining and the sky is a brilliant shade of deep blue. just crossing my fingers that it will remain this beautiful for the rest of the day. that being said, i have uni all day so i will be lusting after the beautiful weather from the confines of a classroom. why is it that the best days are always the ones i have to spend doing something other than lying in the park soaking up the sun? first world problems, seriously. anyway, now that i am back to berlin and back to some sort of regular schedule, i thought i would go ahead and share with you a few snapshots from my weekend getaway to the island of osedom on the ostsee (baltic sea) with the boyfriend. i brought my camera as well, but i am sure you all know how it is ... i was too busy being all romantical, which meant that my camera never even saw the light of day during this trip.

i did, however, manage to snap a few instagram shots. you guys can get a bit of an idea what usedom is like from these shots. the town itself quaint and charming (minus all the awkward stares i encountered during our stay due to the fact that i am asian, but i will get to that another time) and i have probably never eaten better fish in my life. seriously, we ate fish every.single.day. we stayed in a camper in the woods which was a really great escape from city life. i enjoyed being front row and center to nature and being able to take walks through the forest or lay on the beach. i swear if i would have stayed there any longer i am sure i would have turned into a full-blown hippie never showering, never shaving my legs and listening to the grateful dead on repeat. i kid, but it was refreshing to be away from all the pomp and circumstance of the city and just throw on a flowy t-shirt over your bathing suit. in true rae form, i did however pack my favorite pelpum skirt and black pumps. you can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl?

the long weekend also solidified my desire to do a lot more traveling to places that are not so influenced by the latest trends or in-season hand bag. i am longing to backpack around the globe in warmer climates. dreaming of riding a motorbike through hanoi. now i know this all sounds a bit "into the wild" tropical edition, minus a tragic and painful death caused by mistaken plant identity and i am sure i am romanticizing this all just a wee bit in my first-world mind, but the feelings are genuine. there is something to the idea of just going at the world with the things on your back and the shoes on your feet exploring different cultures and meeting new people along the way. at least for a little while. these are the kinds of experiences which are truly unique and cannot be bought at any cost. i have also been toying with the idea of eventually moving to the coast somewhere. in any case as of late i have been doing an overall questioning and assessment of my consumption level in general. fashion has been taking a bit of a backseat in my life these days as well. now don't anyone panic. i will still be blogging about fashion and my life, but with slightly modified intentions behind my posts which may or may not end up being visible. but enough about my current *epiphanies* about life, it's time to get some work done before uni.

leaving for the weekend!

Due to christi himmelfahrt and a wonderfully placed brückentag (the day between a national holiday and the weekend, meaning 4 day weekend!) the boyfriend and i have spontaneously decided to take a trip to the northern coast of germany! i am not sure what the reception will be like up there, but feel free to follow me on instagram!: lovefromberlin ! we will be leaving this evening and will return on saturday!

santa monica pier

now i really have no idea about how native LAers feel about santa monica pier - too touristy? crowded? kitschy? - but i personally loved it. then again i definitely have a soft spot in my heart for all that is kitsch. i mean you are talking to a girl who basically furnished her dorm room in college with 25 cent thrift store finds consisting of (but not limited to) framed cross stitches of fruit, portraits of saints, and ceramic mugs from the 60s. i sort of have this dream of returning to santa monica pier and riding the mighty mouse, eating cotton candy until i want to throw up, and riding the ferris wheel with my boyfriend while dressed in my cutest wiggle dress and dolled up with flowers in my hair. alright, alright, now i know my life is not a 1950s teen movie, but can we just pretend for a little bit? pleeeaaaaassseee?

we actually did not spend too much time on the boardwalk itself but grabbed lunch towards the start of the pier (can't remember the name of the restaurant though!)and filled up on food-that-is-not-good-for-you-but-you-don't-even-care-because-it-tastes-amazing. i got some sort of mexican pizza and chips with the three best dips in the world: guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. (if any of you disagree with this statement, we need to have a serious talk about your life choices.) just typing out this post is making me hungry again. avocados on my kitchen counter, i hope you are ripe enough for eating! after lunch, we snapped a few family photos (the lovely lady pictured below is my mother, who just had her birthday yesterday! happy birthday, mom!) and then headed over to Third Street Promenade, where i picked up my amazing pea pods from the disney store and some stuff for friends. pretty stoked to be returning to LA in just a few months (cross my fingers!). there is still so much i have yet to see.

on the life update front, things have only gotten busier. i think i tricked myself into believing i was going to have more time for blogging, but it seems as though it is sadly not the csse. i will *try my best* to post at least once a week, but with an internship, job, university, AND a new relationship, you can imagine that i am having a bit of a hard time figuring out my priorities and getting everything done on time. i do have a bunch of instagrammed outfit of the days to share with yall soon, some other updates, and more fashion-related posts, so stay tuned for that. i know am really behind on responding to all of your lovely comments as well, but i do want to let you all know that i value each and every one of them! in the mean time, don't kill me if you suddenly get a life-threatening hankering for mexican and guac after looking through these photos.

ladies (and gentleman?) i am back after a long absence, and with a photo of the best purchase of my life for good measure. back in berlin - and have been for a while, but the weather has been less than motivating for outfit posts. to top it off i have begun a relationship with a wonderful guy and spending time together has been taking up most of my time as of late, but now that i am back to a regular schedule with uni and my internship, i should be getting back into the swing of things with blogging and responding to your lovely comments! oh, and fear not! i have not forgotten about the heaps of photos from california! they will be appearing in the next few posts.
